On its part, WooCommerce may be seen as viable too only that it has a reliance on your web hosting. The problem with this arises when someone opts for an affordable host because as the store gets larger, the speed may also increase thereby requiring one to do some extra work in upgrading it.
Shopify trumps other platforms in terms of user friendliness. It is very easy – I put up my shop without any problems for approximately one hour! You don’t need to worry about anything technical because everything is there already. Although not challenging like a separate platform from WordPress; getting started on WooCommerce may pose some challenges.
First off, you will need to set up a hosting account, then install the plugin before finally making sense of it all; this process took me about two days during my first attempt.
One of the strengths of WooCommerce is that it allows for customization. Due to its open nature and integration with WordPress, you have the freedom to modify almost everything including design or features.
With a few adjustments and additional components that are also free, I was able to get my store appearance just perfect. Shopify allows for customization too, but without paying for apps or being experienced in coding it’s difficult for me to do this.
What are the long-term costs? With Shopify, prices start at $39 monthly but then increase when you add other costs such as paying for transactions if you use non-integrated payment gateways e. g $10-20 each or every month. It could cost around $50-100 per month for a reasonable configuration.
At no initial cost, WooCommerce requires only some extra expenses such as $5-20/month hosting; $10/year domain; $50-100/yearly plugins may be optional. It is less expensive in the beginning, but if your store grows and you have to pay someone for maintenance work on it then hosting will become costly too eventually.
In my opinion, WooCommerce provides better SEO tools and performance than any other platform. Using WordPress plugins such as Yoast with ease enabled me make edits that would improve individual pages for ranking while also providing an excellent platform for content writing (blogging) – thus aiding in long term growth of websites.
The SEO in Shopify is okay with features such as titles and meta tags all available but its complexity may require one to use different kind of third party add-ons. As for speed, Shopify has fast hosting services; on the other hand, WooCommerce is slow if your server does not support it properly – mine used to lag until I switched over to new one that had better service provision altogether!
Is this tip applicable in real life? To elaborate, when I was starting my small candle retail shop, I used Shopify (easy set-up, no stress and it did just fine; I got a couple of hundred sales every month). After that, I moved onto a larger venture on WooCommerce because I needed a unique design and saved money on the long run.
